Starkey has successfully launched its ‘best in industry’ new Edge AI hearing aids in Australia and New Zealand with an endorsed product launch webinar on 4 February 2025.
Hearing practitioners tuned in from around both countries plus Singapore and received CEP/CPD points from Australia’s hearing practitioner accrediting bodies.
There is also an endorsed three-part webinar series post launch, and regional roadshows around Australia and New Zealand.
Audiologist Ms Dawn Rollings, managing director of Starkey Hearing Technologies ANZ, said Starkey had brought forward the ANZ launch of Edge AI due to ‘incredible feedback’ from patients wearing the hearing aids overseas, highlighting amazing sound quality and connectivity.
She said Edge AI had 30% better speech identification than existing hearing aids, ‘pure, clean sound’ and seamless processing’.
“Edge AI supersedes Genesis AI with better sound quality, improved signal-to-noise ratios, and a two-fold increase in streaming range,” Rollings said. “DNN processing is 100 times more powerful, enhancing sound clarity and streaming range.
“There’s also improved signal-to-noise ratios in noisy environments with a 6 dB reduction in low-level noise while maintaining the industry’s best 51 hours’ battery life.”
The device features the industry’s first DNN-powered speech probability predictor which leads to the 30% more accurate speech identification. Deep neural networks or DNN is a machine learning (ML) algorithm that uses multiple layers of neural networks to solve complex problems.
“I think people are always going to go for what’s best in industry which is what Edge AI is,” Rollings says.
An email sent to Starkey clients said: “Starkey Edge AI is the hearing technology built to help every degree of hearing loss and give every patient an edge.
“Edge AI gives you more of what you love about Genesis AI. It has 100 times more DNN (deep neural network) processing and a two times improvement in streaming range, while maintaining the industry’s best 51 hours battery life and smallest sized rechargeable RIC with a sensor.”
Post launch webinars:
There are 2 CEP points eligible from ACAud inc. HAASA by passing a quiz, and 1 CPD point (category 1.2) from Audiology Australia.
The post launch webinars will be from 1pm to 2pm AEDT (Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra):
- on 11 February – Neuro Sound 2.0
- on 18 February – Future Forward Connectivity
- and 25 February – Balance Assessment
Speakers at the first two post launch seminars will be Dr Judy Grobstein, Starkey’s regional director of education and audiology APAC, and Mr Steven Le, Starkey’s consumer support and regional trainer. Mr Justin Burwinkel, senior research audiologist with Starkey US, will present the third webinar.
By watching the launch webinar, practitioners can gain 2 CEP points from ACAud inc. HAASA by passing a quiz, and 1 CPD point (category 1.2) from Audiology Australia (AudA.) AudA members must additionally complete the CPD evaluation and reflections questionnaire.
