The next Passe & Williams Foundation award round for the 2027 financial year will offer three fellowships and a scholarship in the otolaryngology field.
The round opens on 6 July 2026 and closes at 5pm (AEST) on 1 September 2026.
The foundation said a free online webinar on 14 July would help applicants navigate the round with clarity and confidence. Speakers will include the foundation’s grants and finance manager Keira Mason-Hill and board directors Professor Robert Black OAM and Professor Mary Wlodek.
“Held one week after applications open, the workshop gives you the opportunity to review application forms and supporting documents in advance, then join us to better understand what we fund, what makes a strong application, and what’s new this year,” the foundation said.
“Whether you’re applying for the first time, returning for another round, or supporting applicants through a research office, this workshop will help you prepare and submit with confidence.”
Applicants who are a qualified scientist, fully qualified surgeon or equivalent clinical specialist who have the right to study and/or work in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand can apply for a scholarship or fellowships including:
- A research scholarship to undertake or complete a Doctor of Philosophy in a research area of importance to otolaryngology, head and neck surgery (OHNS). Up to two may be offered.
- A junior fellowship of up to two to three years to enable outstanding individuals to obtain postdoctoral (or equivalent) training under the supervision of an experienced clinical or scientific researcher, with the view to establishing a research career in OHNS in Australia and/or Aotearoa New Zealand. Up to two may be offered.
- A mid-career fellowship of up to four years will enable outstanding individuals to expand on their postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience and establish themselves as independent researchers, with the view to pursuing a research career in OHNS in Australia and/or Aotearoa New Zealand.
Additionally, a one year full time clinical fellowship starting from July 2027 will support an outstanding accredited surgeon or surgical trainee in OHNS to obtain unique or innovative skills of importance to Australian/Aotearoa New Zealand OHNS.
The surgeon will undertake a post-training fellowship under the supervision of an experienced surgeon, with the view to establishing a surgical career in OHNS in an accredited teaching unit in Australia and/or Aotearoa New Zealand.
The full-time stipend is up to $150,000 per year plus up to $5,000 per year for conference attendance and up to $5,000 per year towards relocation costs to/from the administering institution.
The applicant must have achieved, at minimum, an intermediate level of competency on the Surgical Education and Training in OHNS (‘SET’) program at the time of application.
