Independent Audiologists Australia (IAA) will run a webinar on 18 June 2025 to help audiologists enhance cochlear implant mapping through objective measurement.
Experienced paediatric and adult cochlear implant specialists Ms Nicole Eglinton, Ms Lauren Iasenzaniro and Ms Erica Caiuby will demystify Electrical Stapedial Reflex Thresholds (ESRT) and demonstrate in practical terms how this powerful objective measure can inform clinical practice.
Eglinton and Iasenzaniro are from All Ears & Speech Audiology and Speech Pathology in Adelaide while Caiuby is from MED-EL.
Ms Julie Watts, IAA executive officer, said the practical, solutions-focused session would instruct attendees how to enhance their cochlear implant programming protocols, improve patient outcomes, and ensure their billing of Medicare implant programming items was full and compliant.
“This session is essential for all audiologists working with cochlear implant recipients who want to enhance their objective measurement toolkit, particularly when working with patients unable to provide reliable behavioural feedback,” she said.
“It’s also an opportunity to add a valuable clinical tool to your practice while potentially creating a new revenue stream.”
She said the webinar would cut through the complexity to deliver insights on:
- Why ESRT measurements are crucial for MAP verification in both paediatric and adult populations.
- How to effectively implement ESRT testing into your clinical workflow.
- Practical tips for achieving reliable measurements even in challenging cases.
- Strategic approaches for integrating ESRT with behavioural loudness scaling.
- Compliant and complete claiming of available Medicare rebates for these services.
Eglinton is CEO and principal audiologist at All Ears & Speech and Little Allied Health. She has a Master’s Degree in Audiology from Flinders University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and is a past executive committee member of IAA.
Her experience includes complex audiological presentations for children and adults, implantable hearing technology, neonatal diagnostics, and auditory processing assessment and management.
Iasenzaniro is clinical lead at the same practice where she has worked since 2011. She completed her Master’s degree in Audiology at Flinders University in 2008, following her Bachelor of Medical Radiations (Nuclear Medicine) in 2006. Her clinical focus includes paediatric audiology and complex adult cases, with experience in auditory processing assessment and management and advanced hearing implant fitting and verification.
Her work involves interpreting complex audiological information to develop recommendations that meet clients’ listening goals.
Caiuby is clinical services manager for MED-EL Australia and New Zealand. She trained as an audiologist in Brazil and worked in Australia for almost 20 years with independent clinics before joining MED-EL in 2013.
She is most passionate about hearing implants and said the highlights of her career were provision of surgical support, as well as “the perpetual buzz of seeing the smile light up a recipient’s face when their implant is switched on”.
The one-hour sunset session webinar will be on 18 Junel at 5pm AEST. The session will be recorded and made available to registered delegates for post-event viewing.
