Independent Audiologists Australia (IAA) has announced a stellar line-up for its two-day Audiology Unchained event in Mooloolaba, Queensland in October.
The event, at Mantra Mooloolaba Beach, features a conference with speaker presentations and a trade show on Friday 17 October, a gala dinner at Mooloolaba Wharf on Friday night, and interactive workshops and masterclasses on Saturday 18 October.
Keynote speaker, Ms Rachael Robertson, was the youngest and just the second female expedition leader to Davis Station, Antarctica. She successfully led a year-long expedition to Antarctica where her leadership and teamwork skills were refined and put to the test. Robertson will present on leading through the unknown, lessons in team culture and resilience.
Professor Harvey Dillon AO from Macquarie University’s Hearing Research Centre will present on separating the causes of listening difficulty while Sydney independent audiologist Dr Signe Steers will put the case for routine OAE testing at all ages.

Professor Antonio Lopez-Escamez, Professor of Ménière disease neuroscience in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, School of Medical Sciences, The Kolling Institute, University of Sydney will discuss changing the game for genetic testing in Ménière’s disease and tinnitus.
Differentiating hyperacusis and misophonia in everyday audiology is the topic for Melbourne audiologist Ms Mini Gupta, while Dr Ian O’Brien, Brisbane music specialist audiologist, will discuss audiological care for musicians – prevention, assessment and rehabilitation considerations.
University of Queensland Professor Emeritus Louse Hickson AM will talk about family-centred audiological care, updating on University of Queensland research about stigma experiences, social connections, the ACE My Hearing program and inclusive services for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) clients.

University of Melbourne audiology lecturers Mr Patrick Bowers and Dr Peter Carew will present on the future of audiology, lifelong learning and communication skills in the age of AI.
Saturday workshops and masterclasses will include:
- Sunshine Coast audiologist Dr Tegan Keogh – Clinical APD assessments: testing to interpretation.
- Townsville audiologist Mr Grant Collins – Vestibular screening and bedside tests.
- Melbourne audiologist Ms Mini Gupta – Pulsatile and somatosensory tinnitus – clinical assessment, audiological clues and triage.
- Head of West Australian State-wide Tertiary Audiology Services Dr Dayse Távora-Vieira – Single sided deafness pathways and implantation outcomes (sponsored by MED-EL).

- Brisbane audiologist Dr Ian O’Brien and Pacific Ears owner/director Mr Terry van Dijk – Hearing protection selection and verification – from music to motor sport (sponsored by Pacific Ears).
- UK audiologist Mr Neel Raithatha – aka YouTube’s “Wax Whisperer” – Meet the WaxScope (Australian product launch, supported by The ENT Store).
More masterclasses are yet to be announced.
