GN is launching groundbreaking new fitting software which is the world’s first to integrate the NAL-NL3 next generation hearing aid prescription formula.

Developed by the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), NAL-NL3 is designed for evidence-based, precise fittings and is the first new hearing aid fitting formula in 15 years. It features a suite of prescriptions, rather than the existing one size fits all solution.

GN’s new fitting software with NAL-NL3 is ReSound Smart Fit 2.3.1, Beltone Solus Max 2.3.1 and Hearing Australia Fitware 2.3.1. The software will be released in Australia in April 2026.

GN said the software was designed to deliver better patient outcomes by empowering hearing care professionals with advanced tools for more precise, consistent, and personalised hearing aid fittings. Image: GN.

GN said the software was designed to deliver better patient outcomes by empowering hearing care professionals with advanced tools for more precise, consistent, and personalised hearing aid fittings.

“With NAL-NL3 now available within new fitting software from GN, hearing care professionals can access a widely recognised gold standard in audiology,” GN said in a media release on 11 March 2026.

“This advanced prescription formula leverages sophisticated AI insights and real-world user feedback, enabling highly precise and personalised hearing outcomes with greater consistency and confidence.

“GN also offers enhanced AutoREM (Real-Ear Measurement) to ensure the hearing aid’s sound output precisely matches the user’s specific ear acoustics for a more natural and comfortable listening experience.”

Elevates standard of care

Dr Brent Edwards, director of the National Acoustic Laboratories, said: “We are incredibly excited that GN introduces the first fitting software to integrate NAL-NL3.

“This will enable hearing care professionals to harness the full power of our cutting-edge prescriptive formula, providing their patients with the most precise and personalised sound experience possible. It truly elevates the standard of care.”

Mr Andreas Anderhov, regional president of Asia-Pacific for GN Hearing, further highlighted the impact.

“This launch underscores GN’s commitment to innovation built through partnership and clinical evidence,” he said.

“We are proud that the very first fitting with NAL-NL3 has successfully taken place at a Hearing Australia Clinic, the largest provider of government-funded hearing services in Australia. This achievement demonstrates our dedication to people-centred innovation.”

The April-May edition of Hearing Practitioner Australia magazine spotlights an interview with GN’s chief audiology officer Dr Laurel Christensen about new GN releases, including the software featuring the NAL-NL3 fitting formula.
