The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is hosting two surgical courses for consultants, senior registrars, fellows and audiologists in July and October 2024.
Attendees can choose to be a participant or an observer.
The Victorian temporal bone advanced surgical course will be from 19 to 21 July and the international Victorian hearing implant surgical course from 24 to 26 October.
The temporal bone advanced surgical course is dedicated to the surgical anatomy of the middle ear and advanced technical skill development in temporal bone surgery.
Cadaveric specimens will be used allowing participants to dissect surgical approaches, perform ossiculoplasties, cochlear implant electrode insertion and other specific surgical techniques.
The course is open to senior registrars/fellows with some experience in temporal bone dissection.
It is also open to participants, including audiologists, who don’t dissect but would be able to observe and use all workstations.
The hearing implant surgical course is dedicated to the clinical and surgical management of hearing implants (cochlear and acoustic implants).
It will focus on advanced technical skill development, case selection and implant type selection.
Modern and state of the art artificial (for young children) and conventional adult cadaveric specimens will be used.
This course is open to young consultants, fellows and senior registrars with some experience and specific interest in hearing implants.
It is also open to participants, including audiologists, who don’t dissect but would benefit from additional lectures on patient selection, mapping and outcome assessments.
