The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne will host a live ENT surgical education event showcasing advanced techniques in otologic and implantable hearing surgery.
The event, on 24 October 2025, is for GPs with an interest in hearing health and specialists, audiologists, audiometrists, ENT trainees and allied health students.
It will include cochlear implant surgery and highlights from the hospital’s internationally recognised Victorian Cochlear Implant Program (VCIP).
Senior audiologist Dr Jaime Leigh, Director of Cochlear Implant and Balance Services at the Eye and Ear, said the VCIP is a state-wide initiative that provides education and ongoing mentoring enabling professionals across Victoria to better identify, counsel, and refer patients for cochlear implants.
“The program, governed by the Eye and Ear, creates an opportunity for patients to receive cochlear implant care closer to home,” she said.
Dr Leigh said the full-day educational event would provide a rare opportunity to observe live-streamed surgery performed by leading ENT surgeons, with expert commentary and case-based discussion focusing on complex hearing loss management, cochlear implantation, and best practice referral pathways.
Program highlights include:
- An otologic and cochlear implant surgical showcase from a state-of-the-art operating theatre at the Eye and Ear. Surgery will be beamed into the hospital’s Martin Family Auditorium, the centrepiece of hospital’s state-of-the-art education precinct,
- An interactive discussion with surgical and audiological teams.
- Clinical insights into patient selection, surgical planning and post-operative outcomes.
- Multidisciplinary collaboration in hearing healthcare.
The AudA endorsed event attracts six CPD points in category 1.1.
