Research scientist, Dr Pramod Dorishetty, has received a travel grant to further his work on the development of advanced biomaterials and tissue engineering approaches for inner ear repair and regeneration.
Dr Dorishetty, from Ear Science Institute Australia, was awarded the 2026 Barry Marshall Travel Award Grant to support his participation at the 2026 Australasian Society for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Conference in Adelaide in April.
The award recognises emerging Western Australian researchers contributing to advances in translational medical science and provides support for participation in leading national and international scientific forums.
Attendance at the conference enabled Dr Dorishetty to engage with the leading researchers and clinicians working in biomaterials, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
His research contributes to the growing field of translational hearing research aimed at bridging laboratory discovery with future clinical applications.
Acknowledging the support of The Hospital Research Foundation Group, Dr Dorishetty said the opportunity had strengthened collaborative research networks and enhanced the translational impact of Ear Science’s research programs.
Named in honour of Ear Science’s Patron and Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall, the travel grant supports attendance at conferences, fostering innovation, scientific exchange and the development of emerging research leaders.
Australian physician and researcher Barry J. Marshall was awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine alongside his colleague Robin Warren for their discovery of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori and proving that it causes gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, revolutionising the medical treatment of stomach ulcers.
Dr Dorishetty previously received innovation fellowship funding to develop a natural, silk-based wound packing material to treat chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) and be used in ear, nose and throat (ENT) clinical applications.
