A reappointed CEO, Mr David Wilson, and a new board of directors has signalled a new era for Deaf Children Australia, the not-for-profit organisation says.
New board directors are Ms Jane Collins (chair), Ms Nicola Paroissien (deputy chair), Mr Anthony Busuttil (treasurer), Mr Geoff Manton, Ms Irena Farinacci, Mr Noel Henderson, Ms Tamara Trinder-Scacco and Ms Jacky Clark. The board continues Deaf Children Australia’s tradition of supporting individuals with lived experience of deafness, sector professionals, parents and family members of deaf children.
Chair Ms Jane Collins said Wilson brought more than 14 years of experience in the disability sector in various senior management and leadership roles including at Deaf Children Australia (DCA).
“He has a strong background in service delivery, business development and leadership and brings a collaborative approach to working with key stakeholders to navigate the ever-changing environment,” she said. “David is committed to shaping a contemporary organisation that is data-driven, focused on innovation, and upholding a culture that is open, transparent, and accountable.”
Wilson added: “Every day, our team continues to help build inclusive communities and connections for deaf and hard of hearing children, young people and their families and I am proud to have the opportunity to lead the DCA team and to support the best outcomes for our stakeholders through our work.”
Collins thanked the previous board and welcomed new the new board.
“The board is a group of talented, passionate and experienced people who bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and networks that will help build a positive future for DCA and the deaf and hard of hearing community,” Collins said.
“Each Director brings a unique perspective and helps to provide diverse governance to the organisation, working closely with the executive team. As chair, I intend to work alongside my colleagues, David and his team and the deaf and hard of hearing community to build a bright future for DCA.”
Free NDIS information sessions for young people
Meanwhile Laura Sampson from DCA is hosting two free information sessions on National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plans for deaf and hard of hearing young people aged 0 to 23 years.
An online session is on 23 August from 630pm to 8.30pm and an in-person event will be in Tasmania from 24 August from 11am to 1pm. RSVP is required for the Tasmanian event by 9 August. For more information contact Courtney.doyle@deafchildren.org.au
