The Australian College of Audiology says its national congress in Cairns will help audiology practitioners learn how to navigate sweeping changes impacting the industry.

‘The heat is on  – Sustaining audiology in a changing climate’ is the theme of ACAud 2024 at Cairns Convention Centre from 8-10 May.

Presentations and discussions are aimed at addressing challenges and opportunities faced by clinicians in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

“In a world that is experiencing profound shifts due to environmental, technological and societal changes, our field of audiology is not exempt from their impact,” the program states.

“From discussions on the latest advancements in hearing technology to sessions on patient care in the face of climate-related health issues, our program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to sustain audiology practice amidst change.”

Thought leaders, researchers and practitioners spanning various fields will share insights, strategies and best practices for navigating challenges ahead through plenary and keynote presentations, and leading interactive workshops and masterclasses.

There will also be an exhibition trade show and preconference meetings and events.

Keynotes on neuroplasticity and tinnitus

Keynote speakers are Professor Anu Sharma PhD, Professor Grant Searchfield and Mr Andrew Bellavia.

Sharma is Associate Chair in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Science and Fellow in the Institute of Cognitive Science and the Centre for Neuroscience at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her research examines neuroplasticity in children and adults with hearing loss who receive hearing aids or cochlear implants.

Searchfield is head of the University of Auckland’s Audiology section and deputy director of the Eisdell Moore Centre for hearing and balance research. His research focus is cognitive processes involved in tinnitus perception and innovative technology for management of hearing loss and tinnitus.

Bellavia is the founder of AuraFuturity hearing and hearables market and branding consultancy.

The conference in tropical North Queensland is in the same region as the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. The event is supported by the Queensland Government.

HAASA members can receive up to 15.5 CPED points while ACAud members can receive up to 30 CPD points. For more information visit https://www.acaudcongress2024.com/
