More than 100 speakers from around the world will present at the 14th annual Coalition for Global Hearing Health Conference in New Zealand in January.
The conference will be at Victoria University of Wellington Pipitea campus, Wellington from 16 to 18 January 2025.
Hearing New Zealand president Ms Lisa Anne Seerup said speakers were from India, Africa, Europe, Central America, North America, Australia and the Middle East among others.
There will be keynote, concurrent and oral sessions, poster presentations, pre-session workshops and a gala dinner.
Topics covered in pre-session workshops include tinnitus and cerumen management, APD, hearing rehabilitation, hearing aid repairs and trouble shooting, hearing loss prevention strategies from birth to geriatrics, infant hearing screenings, implementation of ear and hearing care into primary care, and exemplar outreach in low and middle income regions.
Mr David Pither from Melbourne, president of Ears Inc, an Australian, not-for-profit organisation which helps people hear in low and middle income countries, will present a pre-session workshop on how to make an ear mould and operating a field based ear mould lab.
The conference is open to audiologists, speech language pathologists, physicians, students, and people who are deaf or hard of hearing and their family members, members of advocacy groups and educators.
The purpose of the Coalition for Global Hearing Health is to improve ear and hearing health and the lives of people who are deaf or hard of hearing, especially those in low- and middle- income communities, by:
- Advocating for appropriate and relevant policies throughout the world.
- Defining best practices and disseminating resources for providers.
- Convening stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and networking.
- Educating and empowering consumers, families, providers, and community members.
