The Australasian College of Audiometry (AuCA) has launched a new online course designed to support individuals entering the hearing industry and clinics looking to upskill their front-of-house teams.
AuCA said the Introduction to the Hearing Sector course provided a practical and accessible foundation for new employees, equipping them with essential industry knowledge and client service skills to feel confident in their roles from day one.
The Australian College of Audiology Inc HAASA (ACAud inc. HAASA) supports the program.
Delivered over three online sessions, participants will develop the technical understanding and client communication skills required to contribute confidently to a practice environment from day one, the organisation said.
The program includes the nationally recognised unit BSBCUS301 – Deliver and monitor a service to customers – enabling participants to gain a formal credential that can contribute towards further study.
This creates a clear pathway into nationally recognised qualifications, including the Certificate IV and Diploma of Audiometry.
Demand led to course
AuCA said it developed the course in response to growing demand from industry partners seeking structured, entry-level training for non-clinical staff. By strengthening foundational knowledge and customer interaction skills, the course supports improved client experiences and stronger clinic performance, it added.
“This course is designed to bridge the gap for new entrants to the hearing sector,” said Ms Heather Joseph, AuCA general manager. “It provides both practical skills and a pathway into further education, supporting career progression within the industry.”
The course is ideal for new employees starting work in a hearing clinic, existing staff seeking formalised industry knowledge, or people considering a future career in audiometry.

- Follow safe work practices
- Communication strategies for effective interactions with clients and colleagues
- BSBCUS301 – Deliver and monitor a service to customers, including:
- Identify customer needs
- Deliver services to customers
- Monitor and report on service delivery
- Overview of the hearing industry (ACAud inc. HAASA presentation)
- Essential tools in audiology
- Introduction to the anatomy of the ear
- Basic disorders and types of hearing loss
- Introduction to explaining the audiogram
- Fundamentals of audiological testing
- Introduction to hearing rehabilitation – hearing aids
- Hearing aid maintenance fundamentals
- Basic troubleshooting of hearing aids
- Overview of funding models.
The first intake will be in April 2026 delivered across three live sessions on 16 April, 23 April and 30 April from 12.30pm-4.30pm AEST.
